I was fortunate to be asked by Black Swamp Percussion to provide some content for their 2016 Sound Solution Project. My two-part video series is titled “Setting up for Success,” and it’s all about the importance of having a professional, functional, and efficient setup when we’re playing our instruments. Check out the videos below, and be sure to check out all of the other amazing articles, videos, and products from Black Swamp!
I was honored to be able to present an accessory percussion clinic at the 2016 Missouri Day of Percussion at Battle High School in Columbia, MO! We had a great crowd, with folks overflowing out into the hallway for my session. Special thanks to Kent Lineberry, Missouri Chapter President of PAS, and his colleagues for inviting me down, as well as to my sponsors for supporting the visit. And, of course, a special thanks to all who made the decision to attend! I hope you had a great time and picked up some good information to take home with you!
The Graceland Percussion Group embarked on their Spring 2016 tour on April 19th and 20th, with performances in Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas. We had a great trip, and I was honored to share the stage with my students, who are fantastic musicians and people! Look for a performance near you next year!
Just over a week ago the 3rd annual Graceland Percussion Day took place in Lamoni, Iowa. We welcomed 122 high school percussionists from 8 high schools in Iowa and Missouri to our campus for a day of clinics, coaching sessions, and performances. Special thanks to our amazing guest artists, Dr. John W. Parks IV, Dr. Blake Tyson, and Dr. Gene Koshinski, all of our sponsors, and everyone else who helped make the day so successful!
I am so excited to announce that I’m joining the Remo family of artists! I’ve used Remo products ever since I started drumming, and they’re a fabulous company that produces amazing drumheads and instruments. I’m looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with them!

I’m excited to have been invited to perform at the International Computer Music Conference this coming September in Denton, TX! I’ll be performing my good friend, and awesome composer, Eli Fieldsteel‘s Fractus V: Metal Detector, on Tuesday, September 29th, in Voertman Hall at the University of North Texas. In addition, I’ll have an opportunity to visit with percussion students at both UNT and Texas A&M-Commerce while I’m in the area. I’m looking forward to a fantastic trip! I had a great time participating in the 2015 Missouri Day of Percussion at Battle High School in Columbia, MO! Kent Lineberry (MOPAS Chapter President) and his colleagues did an outstanding job putting on a first-class event. I was fortunate to be asked to judge the high school snare drum competition, and I had a great time listening to so many outstanding young percussionists! It’s always great to see that the percussion community in Missouri, my home state, is so strong!
